At South Axholme 6th Form we want our students to achieve their goals and gain access to the very best university places, FE courses, apprenticeships and work opportunities in the world. To do this we offer a number of IAG (information, advice and guidance) activities and learning experiences including our Prepare and Exceed programmes.
Prepare is our tutorial programme that is designed to provide you with the skills you need to succeed in the 6th Form and beyond.
The initial focus will be on integrating into 6th Form life, encouraging you to develop the necessary study skills to thrive on your courses. In particular, we will concentrate on empowering you to be independent in the effective management of your time and workload.
Towards the end of Year 12 and the start of Year 13, the main focus will be around realising your future aspirations and your next steps after 6th Form. We’ll consolidate the option information that you’ve received and researched throughout your first year, particularly with regards to Higher Education and Apprenticeships, and will support you through the application process for both routes.
The continuing theme throughout the two years will be on preparing for your life outside of education. This is where Prepare programme will evolve and grow with your input; we want you to recognise what it is that you feel you need and want to know about, and we will facilitate this with bespoke sessions during the year.
Our Exceed programme is aimed at those of you who join us with a majority of A*/A grades, and will look to further prepare you for your next steps. This is a bespoke package aimed at providing you with the specific skills and exposure you’ll need to give you the edge when it comes to securing places at elite universities or on competitive courses such as medicine, dentistry and veterinary sciences.
In addition to regular discussions regarding current affairs and your subject of interest, students will also benefit from visits to Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, academic interview practice and the opportunity to study the Extended Project qualification.
All 6th Form students participate in the Prepare or Exceed Programme. Personalised support is provided for university or apprenticeship applications. Students attend university open days or apprenticeship fairs as well as attending career related sessions delivered by external visitors. All students participate in a minimum of two experiences in the work place.
