Mr Barlow and Mr Woodland were invited to a Memorial Dedication Service that took place on Friday 22 September 2023.
Haxey Parish Council have been working on a memorial to the area for air forces as there was a significant presence during the war, due to the flat land around us.
Four students were selected to represent the academy alongside Mr Barlow, Principal and Mr Woodland, History Teacher These students were selected from the Senior Student Leadership Team and those who had an interest in history.
During the event, students saw the unveiling of the memorial, the laying of wreaths. They observed a one-minute address and an exultation. Church representatives said prayers for the fallen and the Last Post was played by a Bugler. A 2-minute silence was observed, and the Reveille was also played.
The Kohima Epitaph was read (this is the epitaph engraved on the Memorial of the 2nd British Division in the cemetery of Kohima (North-East India). It reads: 'When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today .
